INTRODUCTION

The Choir of the University of Santiago de Compostela is a musical educational project under the Culture Area of the Vice-Rectorate of Students and Culture, open to those interested in training in the field of choral singing. Selected participants can join the resident group, which will rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19:00 to 20:45 (except during exam periods) at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, in addition to any extraordinary rehearsals that may be scheduled.

The Choir will be a mixed-voice ensemble: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass.

Through this call, both active members and reserves will be selected. The reserves will form a list to cover any possible and future vacancies within the University Choir of Santiago de Compostela (CUSC), with the list being valid until June 2025.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

  • Members of the USC University Community (students, faculty, and staff)

  • Members of other choirs and vocal ensembles

  • Conservatory students and instrumentalists of all types and styles

  • Singers of any musical style: traditional, jazz, pop, musical theater, etc.

  • Actors, teachers, and voice professionals

  • Classically trained singers

  • Music enthusiasts and singing lovers in general

*Admission will be subject to passing the audition, with priority given to members of the USC University Community. USC students will have preferential status.

HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE?

To participate in the USC Choir, an in-person audition will be held on Tuesday, September 24th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Candidates will perform a brief, freely chosen piece a cappella or with accompaniment provided by the OCUSC (each candidate may bring any necessary or suitable resources for this purpose). Additionally, they will need to participate in a short vocal exercise to better assess their vocal range. Applicants must register in advance by filling out the registration form before September 22nd, 2024, by 11:59 p.m.

DURATION. IS THIS FOREVER?

Participation in CUSC is limited to a maximum of 2 academic years. For USC undergraduate students, ECTS credits awarded for participation are distributed as follows: 4 credits for the first completed year and 2 credits for the second. Membership in the project may be extended in future calls at the discretion of the OCUSC organization but without the awarding of additional credits. In subsequent years, if not all positions are filled, candidates may remain with priority given to those who have participated for the least amount of time.

These auditions aim to identify, select, and evaluate the participation of candidates within the programs that the OCUSC will carry out between October and July of the 2024-25 academic year, as well as any associated programs that may arise.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN THE AUDITION?

  • Perform a fragment of a piece of your choice a cappella or, if desired, with accompaniment provided by the candidate through a recording (play-along) or an accompanist.

  • Perform a brief tonal exercise on the spot during the audition without prior preparation.

UNTIL WHEN CAN I APPLY?

  • The deadline to complete and submit the form is September 22nd, 2024, by 11:59 p.m.
